The Story of – Why Christian Schools
The challenge: create a video to help parents start discussions about Christian schools
The result: 17 minute DVD, 8 page booklet, website and ongoing blogsite
This was a very challenging project on behalf of Covenant Christian School Sydney. They needed a tool to help parents better understand the bigger vision of the school. As Covenant was now over 30 years old they wanted to ensure the original vision of the school was being communicated to a fresh generation. They also felt existing and prospective parents needed to consider some important questions about the role of parents, teachers and education.
There are many books and articles about Christian education but I wasn’t sure they were being read by prospective parents. I felt video would be a better medium for explaining the vision. In my role of helping other schools with marketing I also realised prospective parents are asking the same questions at other schools. Rather than just making a video promoting Covenant I presented the idea of creating a generic video other similar schools could use.
Fortunately Covenant agreed and were willing to fund the project. I conducted 20 interviews in one day creating over 2 hours of video footage. This was then professionally edited by TdhMedia and broken up to answer six key questions raised by parents. I also wrote an 8 page booklet to reinforce the key messages of the video. This booklet is included as an insert in the DVD. It also formed the basis for a new website which has all six videos embedded. I chose to upload these videos to YouTube to enable other schools to embed any they liked in their own website.
To ensure the new website has a continuing life a blogsite was added. The blogsite showcases promotional videos from Christian schools around the world. Over 40 posts were created for the launch of the blogsite to give it an instant momentum. Many blogposts were scheduled to automatically go live up to 10 weeks following launch.
