Most people make emotional decisions and then may try to rationalise it. It’s human nature. Stories can firstly engage the emotions and then satisfy the rational.
Storytelling is part of daily life yet most businesses ignore it.
Sadly many people consider marketing to be about pushing products. I disagree. Marketing is ALL about people. People love stories. So stop marketing and start telling true stories.
I ask people “what’s your story?” so it is fair to ask “what’s my story?”
Back in the 1990′s doing a Bachelor of Business Degree with a Double Major in Marketing and Management at UTS Sydney I dreamed of being a Marketing Manager. Once it was on my business card I discovered something surprising. People didn’t want to be marketed to! They didn’t want to be sold something. However they would listen to stories. They did want to buy. I soon dropped the ‘Marketing Manager’ title and become a Storyteller. It’s more fun, generates better results and creates interest.
Stories make us smile, groan, celebrate and laugh. They can shock and excite us. Fill us with courage or fear. Some stories inspire and others warn. Movies, TV shows, YouTube, books, magazines and songs all engage us through stories. We repeat them to others. Friends share stories which help create memories. Yet most organisations think they need to advertise. To push. To promote. To sell. They copy what others do. They get lost in the crowd.
Stories are powerful. Word of mouth referrals are the lifeblood of any business.
Stories can work for or against you. A positive endorsement can tip a business into success. Yet businesses can be destroyed in a day by a rumour – a false story which is believed.
“So what’s your story?” is more than a business byline for us. It is a crucial question. It goes beyond an elevator speech. It’s a mix of history, current practice, and future vision.
Most of all it is about passion. I believe people do business with people. Whether schools, lawyers, electricians or entertainers every business is dealing with people.
It’s boring being the same as the next supplier of your product or service. Let us help you discover your unique story, and find ways to share it.
We are more than marketing consultants. We can help you create a story people will REMEMBER
- a story they BELIEVE
- a story they want to be PART of
- a story which leaves them wanting to hear MORE from you.
- It’s stories which the media LOVE, stories which create CONVERSATIONS, stories which SELL products and services.
Stories are powerful. Word of mouth referrals are the lifeblood of any business
Why settle for marketing when you can tell a story. You will be surprised at the difference it makes.
